The Roaring Twenties was a time of jazz music, the Charleston, old Hollywood and The Great Gatsby. It’s a time that ladies said goodbye to long Victorian hair styles and embraced the new short hair style.
Several new hair styles were popularised during the twenties such as, the Bob, Finger and Marcel Wave, and the Shingle.
The Bob defines the 1920′s more than any other hair style. The short, rounded, blunt cut was very popular amongst Hollywood movie stars who played a big part in popularising the new hair fashion.
The Bob took off so much that F.Scott Fitzgerald, author of The Great Gatsby, wrote a short story called ‘Bernice Bobs Her Hair’. The girl transforms from a socially isolated girl into a vamp by just having a Bob.
The Bob was cut straight across around ear length. Worn straight, pinned, wavy or curled and usually worn with a short fringe. Headpieces and jewels were worn to add the feminine touch.
The 1920′s are currently back in style. Thanks to The Great Gatsby and TV shows such as Downton Abbey, the 1920′s fashion shows no signs of stopping. Dresses with beads, sequins, lace, satin or flowers paired with 1920′s hair and makeup will help you achieve ‘the look’.
